Sir,
Enclosure No.1.
Royal Air Force Base,
Kai Tak,
Kowloon.
29th September, 1928.
31
I have the honour to inform you that in
accordance with arrangements made between the
Colonial Office and Air Ministry of which I
understand you have been duly notified, I have been
instructed to examine and report on the Aerodrome at
Kai Tak, agree provisionally with the Hong Kong
authorities, subject to final Air Ministry approval,
a lay out of the site to meet probable Royal Air
Force and Civil Aviation requirements and also agree
to the disposal of land acquired for the aerodrome
which may be found surplus to requirements.
I have carefully considered the lay out plan,
marked "B", prepared by the Honourable The Director of
Public Works and forwarded with His Excellency, The
Governor's despatch No.226 dated 25th April 1928. The
proposed buildings are sited on the Eastern side of the
aerodrome and for an establishment such as that
suggested the arrangement is in general entirely
satisfactory. In siting the buildings advantage
has been taken of the fact that the hills close to
the Eastern boundary prevent aircraft, taking off
towards or coming in from an Easterly direction, using
a strip of land along this boundary, which therefore
becomes available for building purposes.
It is
undoubtedly desirable in any lay out to utilize, as
far
The Honourable The Colonial Secretary,
Hong Kong.
